Aquatic & Coastal Splash and sail in a marine wonderland. The Mornington Peninsula boasts more than 10% of Victoria’s shoreline. The 190+ kilometre coastline includes everything from family friendly, sandy bay beaches to wild, rugged ocean coastlines. This unique area is home to 500+ species of fish, and 1000+ marine plant species. It’s a magical diving and snorkeling area including marine national parks and more than 60 shipwrecks. You can swim with dolphins, meet cheeky Australian fur seals, or snorkel with delicate weedy sea dragons. Try paddle boarding, surfing, sailing, kayaking, fishing and more. Mornington Peninsula is lined by two unique bays, Port Phillip and Western Port, which offer hundreds of exciting sites to explore and fascinating marine life to see. The wide range of marine life and habitats are a result of its location at the centre of the Victorian coastline. This is where marine life from the cooler waters of western Victoria meets and mixes with warm water species from eastern Australia. As a result, the marine environments of the southern shores are superior to aquatic habitats anywhere else in the world. Habitats include rocky reefs, seagrass meadows, sandy plains and sponge gardens. Being part of a declared UNESCO biosphere reserve with marine national parks on our doorstep, the Mornington Peninsula is a unique spot to dive, snorkel, kayak, or fish. Out in Port Phillip there is a population of around 120 Rare Burrunan wild dolphins, and you can join a tour to snorkel with some of them, swim alongside cheeky Australian fur seals, or explore underwater marine parks filled with colourful fish and search for those amusing little weedy sea dragons.

Markets & Shopping Shopping can soothe the mind, calm the soul. Fill your picnic basket and your pantry. Discover that perfect gift, the painting you’ve been searching for, or perhaps that artistic sculpture for your garden. So it’s time to get roaming and shop around the many villages on the Mornington Peninsula. Weekend and mid-week markets are great places to connect with local food producers, artists and crafts people. Farm shops and artisan retailers give you a real taste of the range of food and wine. Shopping centres are small and friendly, antique outlets overflowing with special finds. So really, there’s simply no excuse not to shop. Everything from antique stores to finding treasures in our markets across the Mornington Peninsula. Discover farm shops or visit more than 30 villages with superb art galleries, boutique shopping and tempting gourmet food stores. Little antique outlets are dotted throughout the villages, but if you want huge choice in just one or two villages, try Tyabb and Dromana. Both have enormous antique centres with between 20 and 40 stall holders, most with a passion for a particular era or wares. For a beautiful backdate of your wardrobe, check out the jewellery, clothes, shoes, bags, hats, retro and vintage clothing. If you want to find genuine period pieces for your home, stall holders will help with antiques, art deco, retro wares and fun Australiana.

Explore Maybe it’s time to drag yourself away from those beautiful beaches and explore the rest of the Mornington Peninsula. Up in the hinterland are lots of adventurous attractions, including walking tracks between wineries or along bush tracks to ocean beaches. Looking for things to do? Magnificent maze gardens have activities for everyone…go tree surfing or tube sliding, wander through beautiful landscapes or stroll along boardwalks through wetlands. The nightlife gets pretty intriguing too, with moonlit tours to see endangered wildlife or catch a movie one of Victoria’s last operating Drive Ins. How do our gardens grow? Beautifully! Come and see a fragrant lavender garden, meandering hedge mazes, cottage gardens, formal gardens perfumed with 70,000 rose bushes and gardens with towering trees from the 1860s. If you want to take home a little inspiration from the Mornington Peninsula, our garden centres, herb nurseries and gardening clubs will help with plants, seedlings, seeds and plenty of good advice. Discover a wealth of family friendly attractions. Hand feed tame wallabie, walk along the beach or cycle between wineries. You could stay here for a week and still not discover all our wildlife and adventure experiences. On the coast you can hire bikes and cycle almost to the tip of the Peninsula at Point Nepean National Park which is filled with history and a huge network of trails ready to explore.

Arts & Culture It’s art in action on the Mornington Peninsula! Drop in on glass blowers as they create brilliant glass art, call into artists’ studios or buy at fabulous art galleries. Outdoor art is also in abundance with Australia’s largest outdoor sculpture park being right here on the Mornington Peninsula at Pt Leo Estate. Does history intrigue you? Then tour tiny museums or historic military installations. There’s lots of contemporary culture too, so just check online and book a concert, play or festival event. The Mornington Peninsula boasts a vibrant and flourishing arts scene with many artists making the peninsula their home. You’ll find galleries of all sizes and public art throughout the region. And, if you are after a bit of culture, then keep an eye out for theatre shows, events of all kinds, performing arts, family shows and comedy. But equally as strong as the contemporary arts scene is the Mornington Peninsula’s sense of history. For heritage lovers there are a diverse range of museums and heritage experiences, from historic cottages to car museums and grand historic mansions. Victoria’s first European settlement was established near Sorrento in 1803, and the state’s second lightstation was built at Cape Schanck in 1859 (it still operates much as it did originally). Point Nepean played a critical defence role from the 1880s through both World Wars, and its historic Quarantine Station is now open to visitors.

Wine Food Farmgate Whether you’ve got a day or a week, the Mornington Peninsula is total temptation. You’ll find market gardens, farmgates, farmers markets, artisan food producers, winery restaurants and casual cafés. The Mornington Peninsula vineyards are famous with 50 cellar doors located throughout the region. Fill your picnic basket at a farmgate or share a regional platter at a winery restaurant. Take high tea, book a cooking class or savour a fine dining experience in a Chef’s Hat restaurant – it’s all here. You’ll find award winning restaurants, casual piazzas overlooking kitchen gardens, acclaimed outdoor sculpture and private summer picnics in stunning estates, or there’s casual fare on the sunny deck, alongside beautiful accommodation. Find an elegant dining room, with decks and terraces overlooking vineyards so close that you feel like you’re dining amid vines. The menus are adventurous and creative, with local produce including mussels, whiting, beef, artisan cheeses and handpicked berries. A reputation for Chardonnay, Pinot Noir and Pinot Gris, all with a true sense of place, has been gained by the region. Cellar door cafés serves a daily lunch of simple, seasonal dishes to complement the wines. Pick up a copy of the Mornington Peninsula Wine Food Farmgate Trail map and look for the Wine Food Farmgate trail logo as you drive around the region.

Beer Cider + Spirits Tap into Victoria’s most vibrant beer, cider and spirits scene. Meet the new generation of brewers on the Mornington Peninsula up close to experience where they practice their craft. Seeking the perfect Pale Ale, Lager, Brown Ale or an IPA? Perhaps a classic, sweet or dry cider is more your thing. Are you a gin or rum lover? Discover our local spirits rich in infused botanicals. Whatever your persuasion, this dynamic region will satisfy your curiosity. From industrial chic to rustic charm, each destination offers flavours unique to their environment – find the one that’s right for you. Take a day or stretch one into a week - there are abundant ways to explore Mornington Peninsula brewing taste sensations - indulge in a long lunch with a beer paddle, test run a whisky, take a gin flight or explore a creative cocktail or two. Curious about the process behind your favourite beer, cider or spirit? Book a tour of a brewhouse or distillery and let one of our local expert makers guide you through their techniques and history. Get hands on with a master class to delve deeper into the wonderful world behind the scenes of our craft brewing scene creating your own bespoke gin recipe to take home to share. Look out for our comprehensive Beer, Cider and Spirits Trail Map to discover the home-grown flavours of the Mornington Peninsula and find your way to the perfect sip.

Golf Want some bragging rights at your local golf club? Then come to Australia’s #1 golf destination. Here’s the ‘need to know’ info: 8 clubs and 13 outstanding courses. 2 courses are in Australia’s top 10, plus another 11 in the top 100. And there’s a fantastic variety of play for novices and experts, with links, parkland and resort courses. You can play at any time too - the golf is truly year round, with a mild climate, fast-draining sandy soils and sand dunes creating some tricky challenges. And the bonuses? Spectacular coastal views, excellent on-course accommodation and great packages. There’s a huge choice of play from social golf to the very demanding Open course at Moonah Links, which designer Peter Thomson calls the ‘Leviathan’ as it’s “one of the largest creatures on the planet”. Peter Thomson is just one of the golf legends who have designed some of our magnificent courses. Robert Trent Jones Jnr, Ross Perrett, Tony Cashmore, Tom Doak and Greg Norman have all been inspired by the extraordinary terrain on the Mornington Peninsula. The result: Golf Australia has ranked nine courses amongst the top 80 public access courses in Australia. It’s no wonder this extraordinary region has been likened by many leading golf writers and top players to California’s Monterey, Scotland’s Fife and the Hamptons near New York. So why not start at the top of the Peninsula and work your way south. There is even an annual golf tournament playing multiple clubs for you to enter.

Spa & Wellbeing So you’ve been promising yourself for weeks that you’ll take some ‘me time’ and relax? You’ll find life instantly slows down as you float in naturally hot mineral springs, gazing up at shady trees or the starlit sky. But that’s just the start. Masseurs at day spas and luxury spa retreats quickly turn tension into bliss. You can learn yoga in the fresh air on the beach, or book a personal trainer and get started on a new fitness regime. Or just leave the phone behind and take a long, peaceful walk along the cliffs followed by a hot coffee or cool wine. Breathe deeply. Let the fresh sea air cleanse mind, body and soul. Or take a walk in the peaceful hinterland, where the aromas of eucalyptus and the countryside will bring you gently down to earth. We all need time to de-stress, reconnect with ourselves and others, and just reflect on life. The Mornington Peninsula is the perfect place to do that, and to create your personal ‘six degrees of relaxation’. If you need to slow right down, why not spend a whole day at a spa, relaxing in naturally heated mineral baths or booking a couple’s room for a full body pampering. Discover Victoria’s only geothermal hot springs with pools cascading down the valley. Or make it a total indulgence at a spa resort. Beautiful organic products are used for facials, massages, body treatments and spa rituals. Indulge yourself in a massage or treatment at any number of day spas across the region and just relax and let us take your cares away.

Stay You can wake up to the rhythms of the sea, or to the sound of birdsong in the bush. Have breakfast on your balcony overlooking the vineyards or a private lake. Then step out on to a white sandy beach for a glorious walk, or on to the golf course for a day’s outstanding play. Just about every style of accommodation you could wish for is on the Mornington Peninsula. This region has always been known for its traditional beachside holidays, with spacious contemporary apartments, little seaside cottages, superb holiday homes, very comfortable motels and campgrounds where generations of families meet every year. In the hinterland, luxury vineyard retreats, country estates, grand mansions, lakeside lodges and romantic little bed and breakfasts are now found throughout the rolling green countryside. You can take in spectacular ocean views from hilltops, then take a walk through peaceful bushlands in national parks and reserves. There are dozens of accommodation choices in the seaside villages from Frankston to Portsea on Port Phillip, and right along the Western Port Bay coastline to Flinders. Up in the hinterland, look around Red Hill for vineyard suites and luxury retreats. If seaside camping appeals, check out the beach reserves along the Port Philip coastline from Rosebud to Rye and Sorrento.

Tour Just take a complete break from all the planning, driving and navigating of your usual holidays and short breaks. Hand it all over to a local expert who knows the best places to indulge in your love of fine Pinot Noir, handmade cheese, decadent chocolate, art and craft, gardens or farmgates. Specialist operators can take you on an exclusive tour for two, book your restaurant transfers for dinner, organise your girls’ weekend, plan your golfing holiday or arrange corporate touring for your business event. Transferring your wedding guests is easily arranged too. Want something a little different? Go winery hopping around some of the 50 cellar doors on the Mornington Peninsula with a walk-and-shuttle service. Combine a wine tour with a brewery or distillery tour to really enhance your trip. The ferry right across Port Phillip is a ‘must do’, as it links the historic villages of Sorrento on the Mornington Peninsula and Queenscliff on the Bellarine Peninsula. Stroll around Queenscliff for a few hours, or drive your car on to the ferry, and you’re within easy reach of the Great Ocean Road.
